My most common questions about Hypnotherapy

For my first blog article, I thought it would help you if I answered the most common questions I get asked as a hypnotherapist. Please get in touch if you have any further questions or if you would like to book your first initial consultation.

Most common asked questions, as a Hypnotherapist

Am I in control? Yes, you are totally in control at all times. If you wish to stop the session, you may do so at anytime. You cannot be made to do or say anything you do not wish and you are aware of your surroundings and will feel safe in the knowledge that you are always mindful of anything that you do say.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, is the answer. The best way to describe the feeling of being hypnotised is, daydreaming, which is like being in a light state of trance. You do this on a daily basis anyway, without realising. Have you ever driven from A to B and thought, I don’t remember driving here. Or, left the house and then thought, have I locked the door, as I don’t remember locking it. The hypnotherapist will always work with you, in a safe and ethical way.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a process that works with employing the power of positive suggestions to bring about subconscious change to your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. The therapist will aim to alter the state of your consciousness in a way that relaxes the conscious part of your mind whilst focusing on your subconscious by using skilled relaxation techniques that allows the therapist to make appropriate positive suggestions.

I've been before and it didn’t work. Why will it work now?

Some clients are more susceptible to suggestions, than others. The client needs to be fully committed to the process to work. If you feel uncomfortable and do not engage well with the therapist, it will hinder your therapy. So, rapport building is absolutely necessary on the initially meeting. Being able to trust and believe your therapist is all important to a successful outcome.

What issues can Hypnotherapy work for?

Hypnotherapy can be put to use for many psychological, emotional and physical disorders. Stress, anxiety, weight loss, phobias, fears, pain management smoking cessation are just a few issues that hypnotherapy lends itself to remarkably well.
